  25. Bull Shit! AmigaDos did not invent mutlitasking, and neither did os9,
  26. but I have an os9 machine on the next desk that *still* multitasks
  27. far smoother than AmigaDos, or a UNIX box at the station.  And having
  28. installed 2 copies of Win95, I sure as hell wouldn't call that a
  29. multitasking OS.  No OS can qualify in my book till it is the *sole*
  30. judge of whether that task gets any more time to run.  Win95 can
  31. still be locked up, probably by stuffs that are in fact furnished by
  32. microslop on the cd!

  34. OS9 BTW, does have the protected, segmented memory amigados lacks.
  35. Out of the 2 megs in mine, only 64k is available to the cpu at any
  36. one time.  That alone makes it about 10x as bulletproof from errant
  37. programs as amigados will ever be without that re-write everybody
  38. keeps talking about so wishfully.  I recently heard of one thats
  39. running a BBS in chicago which has *not* been rebooted in almost 3
  40. years.  That folks, is the UNIX style of dependability.

  45. This os9 machine, I have maybe $1500 invested in it over the last 11
  46. years!  What is it? A TRS-80 Color Computer 3, with 3 floppies, 130
  47. meg scsi hard drive, two monitors, a modem and all the other
  48. accoutriments of a *real* computer.  While I like and use the heck
  49. outta my miggy too, I'm equally tired of miggy owners claiming their
  50. amiga invented all three members of the bottled beer, sliced bread and
  51. instant sex trilogy.

  64. Presently very true, due partly to way the hell and gone too much
  65. foot dragging on the part of AT and the Developers kits.  Why do the
  66. bean counters always think they need to keep such things so damned
  67. private?  Are you making any money by keeping it secret, AT?  Whats
  68. that?  I can't hear you...  Oh, "no", thats what I thought.

  70. After all, without software to drive the need for machines, theres no
  71. machines bought. And when theres no machines sold, there sure as hell
  72. isn't going to be any commercial software written by folks who like
  73. to eat at the same time they code.

  75. So what do we have? A thriving jousting match between the shareware
  76. writers trying to make beer money on keyfiles, and hackers too damned
  77. cheap to send the $20 for a keyfile so it all works.  Too often the
  78. hackers win, but there goes yet another talented person off to
  79. intelmaniacy just to pay the rent. We get what we deserve in most
  80. cases, but AT is not IMHO, doing one damned thing to slow the
  81. desertion rate.
